The USTA Pro Circuit, the world’s largest professional tour for tennis development, provides the next generation of American champions with the opportunity to play against world-class competition without having to travel abroad. The 2010 tournament will be hosted by the Harlingen Country Club for the 10th year. Events will kick off beginning February 21-23 with Wild Card & Qualifying Tournaments. Singles quarter-finals & doubles semi-finals run February 28-March 3. A portion of the monies raised will go to charities located right here in the Rio Grande Valley. Sponsorships are available. Life truly does begin at the ripe young age of 40 and to prove the point, an enterprising group of South Texans put together a week long golfing and social event that has become a tradition since 1953.
The tournament field is limited to 192 male golfers age 40 and over. The social events are open to each golfer and his guest. While the main activities are related to golf and the nightly social events, there are other activities as well as local area attractions to be explored and enjoyed.
Experience Harlingen the green and eco-friendly way: on a walking tour of the historic Downtown! You’ll hear about frontier days, mid-century boom times, and modern Harlingen as your guide provides an inside look at a town that has been known as “Rattlesnake Junction”, “Six-shooter Junction” and “Howlin’ Gin”.
Get the inside scoop on how ice made Harlingen famous. Learn which Jackson Street buildings were the mortuary, the Wollsworth’s Store, the Piggly Wiggle, and more. Marvel at larger-than-life-size murals. Even locals will be amazed and entertained by what they learn! And don’t forget to bring your camera for a shot of the city’s smallest park.
Dress for the weather, wear comfortable walking shoes, and come prepared to have fun. First-come, first-served.
Come by for healthy locally grown and freshly harvested FOOD. That’s all, just food.
The Harlingen Farmers Market is held weekly every Saturday afternoon. The Market is located on “A” Street between Jackson and Monroe, behind Grimsells and in front of New York Deli. Our summer hours are from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. We recommend you remember 3:00 pm so you have the best possible selection.
There is ample parking on Monroe Street, or in the city parking lot bounded by Monroe, Jackson, 1st and 2nd Streets. Be aware that on every first Saturday of the month, Jackson St will be closed to auto traffic for “Market Days”.
Although Market Days will be ending about the time the Farmers Market begins, there will be an overlap in time for people who arrive early for the Harlingen Farmers Market (we open at 2:30 on Market Days Saturdays), Jackson Street will still be blocked off. So, HFM customers should park on Monroe or in the city lot.
Easiest thing to do? Get used to parking on Monroe Street and approach the Market from that side.
