While you are downtown enjoy the regional cuisine at one of the locally-owned eateries. Specialties include tex-mex, barbecue, juicy burgers, and fresh salads and sandwiches. A vintage vinyl shop, old-fashioned soda bar, and authentic army surplus store are just a few of the reasons that locals and visitors alike flock to the area.
Downtown Harlingen hosts the Harlingen Farmer’s Market and Jackson Street Market Days in addition to family movie nights, parades, classic car shows, and other popular community events. While you are here, take in a tour of the historic downtown business district or Harlingen’s larger-than-life murals. There is always ample free parking.

You’ll hear about frontier days, mid-century boom times, and modern Harlingen as your guide provides an inside look at a town that has been known as “Rattlesnake Junction,” “Six Shooter Junction,” and “Howlin” Gin.” Tours depart from Java Cafe at 9 AM every Saturday, October through March. No tours on the first Saturday of the month due to Market Days.
